Beamsplitters

Beamsplitters are optical components that split an incident light beam into two or more beams with the same or different optical power. Finding and selecting between plate beamsplitters, pellicle beamsplitters, or prism and cube beamsplitters in polarizing or non-polarizing models will be determined by the application. Plate beamsplitters, frequently used in laser technology, have a coated front surface that determines the beam splitting ratio and an AR coated back surface that minimizes ghosting and interference effects. Pellicle beamsplitters provide excellent wavefront transmission properties, in cube beamsplitters the beam separation occurs at an interface within the cube, and polarizing beamsplitters offer one polarization direction. Sometimes, applying a dielectric multilayer coating or a thin metal coating on the surface can modify the optical properties of the beamsplitter. AR coatings can also make the beamsplitter useful for UV, Visible and IR applications.
